Places:

Because the average character does not have a good idea of the geography of Nefaihr, this map has been left without labels. Detailed information on the cities is available in the next section, however, and labelled maps may be provided to characters who would know the world well.

Cities:

Agrafenn:

Agrafenn is where small groups of imps fled to after the war with the humans began. Leaving their homes near Nayo, Agrafenn became somewhat of a capital for impkind. Nobody's heard much about them lately though. They mostly keep to themselves, living off the hills of the area. Many imps who move to Agrafenn love it... it is the one place totally free of stereotypes against imps.

Population: 4,000

  • 100% imp

Trades: Metalwork, Livestock, Tailoring, Mining, Leatherwork, Woodwork

Berrun:

Berrun is a very important town in the global economy. Berrun is governed by a lord and a group of advisors. The lord changes every single year. Berrun is a major trading city, with the largest port area of all of Nefaihr. Berrun's main trading partners are Genjora and Laconna to whom they trade artifacts (from nearby Thenn), leather goods and liquor.

Despite being a very prosperous city overall, Berrun has its fair share of problems. The large imp population is not as oppressed as they are in Genjora, but they are still somewhat segregated from much of the community. The imps have their own little society, and after a small incident with the imps the human population often overreacts at the imp community as a whole.

Berrun also has a militia rather than a true army, but they have proven themselves capable against both bandits and ogres who live to the north. Often, adventurers stopping through will go and attack the ogres to help Berrun. The worst threat to Berrun is when the dark knights from Darkwall Manor attack, though this is a rare occurance.

Important people:

  • Lord of Berrun: Lord Edwin XI
  • Head of Thenn Magus: Daedolon
  • Head of Trading Operations: Benjamin

Population: 15,000

  • 50% human
  • 35% imp
  • 10% elf
  • 5% talian

Trades: Trade, Agriculture, Shipwrighting, Tailoring, Mining, Forestry, Artifacts, Leatherwork, Brewery, Fishing

Drye:

Drye is a desert nation, close to the original home of the imps. An underground stream made it an ideal place for a city in the desert, which in ancient times was great for the imps to defend against the humans. In the present, the imps and humans cooperate equally in this city fishing, smithing, and raising animals. Another profitable passtime in Drye is salvage, as the waters off the coast are extremely shallow. Old trade ships which were trapped in ice en route to Polarios often end up in the shallow sand bars near Drye.

Drye occasionally trades with Laconna and Agrafenn, but other than that its trade partners are unknown. Drye also enjoys the business that ships stopping on their way to Polarious can bring.

Important people:

  • Lord of Drye: Lord Harrp
  • Head of Drye Military: General Colm

Population: 12,000

  • 55% human
  • 45% imp

Trades: Salvage, Metalwork, Livestock, Leatherwork, Fishing

Genjora:

Genjora is one of the largest cities in Nefaihr, second only to Laconna. The outskirts of Genjora are very poor and dirty, populated mostly by humans and imps. The houses are small shacks and there is very little business, just a struggle for survival. A visiting trader, however, would never notice this. Downtown Genjora is a very beautiful and prosperous city.

Downtown Genjora has a central street lined with shops and patrolled regularly by the well-known and powerful Genjora guard. There are businesses of all sorts. The corridor of shops ends at the castle gates. To the left of the castle gates is a stony pathway that leads to the port of Genjora, situated behind the castle walls. The port of Genjora has a great deal of trade, especially with Berrun and Laconna. It is possible to buy a ship or pay for passage here.

Genjora Castle is not a large castle compared to that of Laconna or the fortresses of Medway, but it is as well maintained as the regal marketplace of Genjora. There is a main hall that extends into a small barracks and a conference room. Some stairs go down to the dungeon, probably the smallest dungeon in Nefaihr. Upstairs is the throne room, where the kind King Genjora accepts pleas from his peasants and merchants. Being a rather kind and prosperous king, he often helps out the peasants who appeal to him.

In general, the poor people in the slums of outer Genjora are oppressed by the guards. When they enter the marketplace, it is assumed they are there to steal, and thus they often live in fear. Imps are strongly stereotyped as thieves in Genjora.

Important people:

  • King Marc of Genjora
  • Captain of Genjora Guard: Lance
  • Head of Trading Operations: Reginald

Population: 21,000

  • 45% human
  • 30% imp
  • 20% elf
  • 5% talian

Trades: Trade, Metalwork, Agriculture, Shipwrighting, Tailoring, Mining, Forestry

Gomme:

Gomme was a large island between three trading cities: Genjora, Berrun, and Laconna. Because people frequently stopped there to camp or find supplies, a colony began to grow there. Its origins as a trading city have fostered a great diversity and dependence. The city is often full of people who need a ship from one city to another, and shops in Gomme are always there to service their guests.

Gomme has no central government whatsoever. Generally, people respect the captains with the largest trading operation to make the big decisions. The city is filled with people who depend on it as a stopover site, and usually any random person will stand up for the citizens. These citizens are reputedly kind to travellers.

Important people:

  • Head of Trading Operations: Lord Williard

Population: 7,500

  • 40% human
  • 20% imp
  • 30% elf
  • 10% talian

Trades: Trade, Shipwrighting, Tailoring, Fishing

Halooza:

Halooza is a small town at the base of the Roc Peaks. It's a tiny city of foresters and farmers, many of whom are the poor of Genjora beginning a new life. Hazardous trade routes run among the mountains between Halooza and Genjora, and often hired guards are in low supply and high demand in Halooza. Halooza is a dangerous area, but it is constructed with sturdy walls to hold out the creatures of the forests and mountains.

Important people:

  • Lord of Halooza: Nathan

Population: 2,500

  • 75% human
  • 20% elf
  • 5% talian

Trades: Mining, Metalwork, Tailoring, Forestry, Leatherwork, Livestock, Hunting, Woodwork

Haze:

Haze is a city built in the middle of the forests. This is the natural home of the elves, and only the elven language is really spoken here... this makes this a very inhospitable town for non-elvenkind. They merely survive here by hunting and gathering without interacting too much with the rest of the world. Haze seems much as it did 1600 years ago, during the wars with the humans.

Haze is the land of the arcane race, and as such a lot of magical study takes place here. Other than the Tower of Thenn, this is the best place in the world to find or learn about enchanted goods.

Population: 4,000

  • 90% elf
  • 10% talian

Trades: Tailoring, Hunting, Leatherwork, Artifacts

Laconna:

Laconna is somewhat of an unofficial world capital. It is the largest city of all, and with a somewhat diverse population. The imps and elves are more accepted in Laconnan society than that of Berrun or Genjora, and this makes Laconna a very popular place for all the races of the world, contributing to its growth. Laconna is a very clean city, and even its slums are patrolled by the guards. There is much less crime in Laconna than the other major cities.

Laconna is part of the trade network with Berrun and Genjora, and few other towns will deal with Laconna. The smaller towns feel that a country as rich as Laconna would only devalue their products. This is especially true for their occasional trade partner to the south, Drye.

Laconna Castle is a great walled fortress containing the city's barracks. With a layout similar to Genjora, the harbor begins to the side of the castle. Laconna castle is about the same size as Darkwall Manor, equal as the largest castles in Nefaihr.

Important people:

  • King Charles Lacon XVI
  • Bishop of Gario: Omaductus
  • Head of Trading Operations: Jastre

Population: 25,000

  • 45% human
  • 25% imp
  • 25% elf
  • 5% talian

Trades: Trade, Metalwork, Agriculture, Livestock, Tailoring, Mining, Forestry

Medway:

Medway is a large city in the middle of the Genjora continent. It is widely considered the most bigoted city in Nefaihr. The humans here keep themselves away from elves and imps (though occasionally a talian is born, that's acceptable). Medway keeps mostly to itself, but patrols it territory relentlessly with it's large military. Medway is a city of military culture, and the entire society is based around that.

The legion is about 8000 strong, on par with that of the largest nations. The administrative building of it is slightly larger than Genjora Castle. It is ruled by Zedek, who also governs the town. The city also has a smaller building for its magical muscle, but this force is considerably weaker. The leader of the magus is usually bossed around by Zedek.

As for who Medway fights with, most sane people in the larger cities aren't really sure. They used to have large conflicts with Shadowside, but these have largely subsided. They seem to try to govern and direct the nomads in the area, and they of course mostly ignore it. Most people just consider Medway very hardheaded and paranoid as a whole.

Important people:

  • Head of the Legion: Zedek
  • Head of the Magus: Menelkir

Population: 18,000

  • 95% human
  • 5% talian

Trades: Metalwork, Agriculture, Leatherwork, Brewery

Nayo:

Nayo is one of the earliest imp societies, and some humans from nearby areas have helped them develop Nayo's agriculture in recent years. The population is very small, but they provide the essential service of forestry to Laconna. There isn't much of interest in Nayo.

Important people:

  • Lord of Nayo: Alexander

Population: 3,500

  • 30% human
  • 70% imp

Trades: Agriculture, Mining, Forestry, Tailoring

Piars:

Piars is the only city left of the pure talians. There is little of note here, to most it is mostly a state where people go to hunt and trade with the larger cities. To the talian population, however, this land is sacred. Piars is the only city that communicates regularly with Haze, mostly because of its large elven population.

Important people:

  • Elder of Piars: Lord Grimbald

Population: 6,000

  • 15% human
  • 50% elf
  • 35% talian

Trades: Trade, Forestry, Mining, Metalwork, Leatherwork, Hunting, Woodwork

Polarios:

Polarios was recently colonized to encourage Medway to trade with other nations. So far this hasn't worked. Many races still enjoy going here for hunting and living close to nature, however. Ships usually travel here from Drye, but if they travel in winter they often get stuck in ice and end up wrecked. Ships travelling to Polarios need to be very careful.

Important people:

  • Lord of Polarios: Siftus

Population: 1,500

  • 40% human
  • 40% elf
  • 40% imp
  • 10% talian

Trades: Forestry, Hunting, Metalwork, Mining, Leatherwork, Woodwork, Fishing

Quarteray:

Quarteray is a small community of farmers who have settled nearby the Quarterway River. The river was named from times when travel between Genjora and Shadowside was more common, and they found that the river was about a quarter of the distance between (as Medway is roughly halfway). The people shortened the name to Quarteray just because it's easier to say and they're all country bumpkins.

Important people:

  • Elder of Quarteray: Lemmel
  • Militia Captain: Estem

Population: 1,200

  • 88% human
  • 10% elf
  • 2% talian

Trades: Agriculture, Livestock, Leatherwork, Woodwork, Milling

Shadowside:

Shadowside is a very scary city. If you arrive during the daytime, you'll think you've stumbled into a ghost town. At night, it is full of activity. The people here eat very little and seem to enjoy their suffering (for they never seem to move away). They also enjoy watching arena combat at the city's immense stadium.

The city's homes are mostly tiny shacks and small boxes, and they seem as if stacked on top of each other. The large population of Shadowside is pressed inside a comparatively small area. In short, Shadowside is an extremely unpleasant place to visit, and seeing it explains why Medway is so paranoid about them.

Important people:

  • Lord of Shadowside: Lord Despar
  • Bishop of Nyx: Traductus

Population: 16,000

  • 60% human
  • 40% imp

Trades: Metalwork, Livestock, Leatherwork, Artifacts

Teistawath:

Teistawath is the only permanent settlement of the nomads of the Genjora continent. It's a very small town, but the nomads seem to enjoy it. When they go on their travels and hunts, they often return to Teistawath where the occasional Genjoran trader can provide them with high-quality metal products.

Important people:

  • Chief of Teistawath: Chief Shomack

Population: 1,000

  • 100% human

Trades: Agriculture, Livestock, Leatherwork, Tailoring, Hunting
