Creating a Character:
Probably most of this you could've figured out by now... but here's a little walkthrough.

Start your character at level one.
Distribute 40 points amongst Strength, Agility, Vitality, and Intellect.
Distribute 30 points between magic resistance and hit%.

Then figure out your derived stats as follows:

Hit Points30 + Vitality
Hit %as assigned
Resistas assigned
# Hits1 + [Hit % / 32]
Damage[Strength / 2]
Evade20 + Agility
Absorb0
Weight0
SpeedAgility

Or if you're planning to fight barehanded, these values would be better for these statistics:

# Hits2 + [Hit % / 16]
Damage[Strength / 4]

Write a pretty story if you like.
Now you can go up two levels depending on what you feel is appropriate to the character.
Level 1 represents characters with little training and experience.
Level 2 represents characters with training but no experience, or characters with experience and no training.
Level 3 represents characters with training and experience.

If you choose to level up your character a little, you may distribute 2 points for each level you rose amongst the core stats.
Then the derived stats increase as follows at each of those levels:

Hit Points: 8 + Vitality/2
Magic Res.: 1 + 1 for each point you placed in Vitality and Intellect for that level
Hit%: 1 + 1 for each point you placed in Strength and Agility for that level

To even it up a little, level 1 characters are more likely to be allowed minor magical baubles at the start.

Speaking of minor magical baubles, now you discuss your equipment with me, or my designate. We'll agree on something so you can fill out the next few derived stats.

Evade: 15 + Agility - armor weight
Damage: Strength/2 + weapon power
Absorb: sum of armor's absorb

Now, your character points at this point will be equal to 10 if you're level 1, 12 if you're level 2, or 15 if you're level 3. Feel free to do something with them based on the previous sections. Then your character is pretty much ready to go. Here's a sheet, just for kickz.
