#suicide is an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) channel
on the Undernet network.
Most people here are or have been suicidal or depressed, though we do not
talk about suicide and depression all of the time. Or even most of the time. The topic
of discussion varies; if you want to talk about suicide or depression, go right ahead.
If you conduct yourself in a reasonable fashion, you may find #suicide to be
a nice enough place.
However, if you act like a fool, you will probably be treated like one. If you are consistently
annoying or offensive enough you may find yourself banned. Beyond that, there are
a few more things to keep in mind:
- #suicide is really *not* the place to come if you are in immediate danger of
harming yourself. We are not trained professionals. There are no guarantees that people will be
supportive here.
- IRC takes place in real-time and people might say anything. Please consider
calling a suicide hotline or seeking professional help instead, if you are feeling too unstable to
withstand the possibility of being treated unkindly or of people being unresponsive.

- Don't self-injure or attempt suicide while you are in #suicide please.
- Don't urge others to self-injure or attempt suicide.
- Don't directly help people plan out suicide methods in channel.
- Generally, advice coming from people on IRC should be treated like it's coming from a
madman screaming at people on the street as they pass him by.
- IRC software usually has an ignore feature. Please learn how to use it. Using ignore is
preferable to getting drawn into foolish arguments. For example, users of mIRC can simply
type
/ignore nickname 2 to ignore someone with a particular nickname. Almost all IRC
clients have a similar ignore feature; consult your documentation for details.
- This should be obvious, but it is advisable not to share personal information with people you barely know, such as phone numbers, addresses, details of where you work or attend school, et cetera. People are not always what they seem to be.
- No flooding. No advertising. No DoS attacks.
