How can I create a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to yip.org using
Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)?
This method of connecting has three advantages over tunneling ports over ssh:
- It will encrypt all traffic to and from yip.org.
- It can be set up to connect automatically.
- It can be used in conjunction with tunneling ports over ssh to create a
connection that is even more secure than with ssh alone.
It also has several disadvantages:
- The strength of the encryption is much lower if it is not used with ssh port
forwarding.
- You must contact us to obtain an encryption key for the connection. (This
may change if we install raccoon to do key exchange automatically)
- It is potentially more difficult to get working, as compatibility problems
and firewall issues may arise which are not easily troubleshot.
- We haven't tested doing this yet - PPTP takes precedence due to its higher
popularity, and the mail and file transfer sections need to be finished before
PPTP. This is really just a placeholder page.
Expect more work in this area in mid-January.
