The Great Mud Pyramid of the Gods

By Totenbuch Christ

I stood naked in the large field. I was not sure why I was there, or why a crowd of hundreds stood watching me, with smiles on their faces.

I suppose if I had been watching this scene, perhaps from one of the distant trees that encircled the field I was in, I would have smiled and perhaps even laughted. But I wasn't, so I didn't, I just dug my sore hands into the cold earth to create yet another mud pie.

Once completed, a small girl, with a very large fake smile, walked up to me and for some strange reason, I handed her the pie. She took it, nodded ever so slightly and walked off.

"Strange," I said. I was about to make another pie when I began to think. I thought about why I was making the mud pies, how many I had made, and the purpose the pies served. None of these questions could I answer.

I slapped just a bit more mud on my newest pie and handed it to the young man who stood waiting. He to had a big, too big in fact, smile and nodded slightly when handed the pie. He then walked offtowards the gigantic mud structure that sat quietly at the other end of the field.

I continued making my pies, only sparing enought time to quietly whisper, "strange," under my breath.

I stopped making my pie and turned back to the colossal mud pyramid. It had seemed so natural that I had not given the structure much thought, thinking only of the vast number of people who climbed it. But there it was, a gigantic piece of mud that stretched so far into the sky that I lost track of it in the clouds. Not that natural a sight after all.

"Strange," I stated, which was only natural, for I was staring at the biggest piece of mud I had ever seen.

I would have stared all day, had it not been for the young woman who was standing impatiently behind me. Impatiently with a big smile (if that's possible).

I quickly put together a mud pie. AIt wasn't the best mud pie I had ever made, but she didn't seem to mind. She took the pie and began walking toward the pyramid.

There were people climbing the pyramid at regular intervals, all the way to the top, or at leastas far as I could see. I noticed that at the intervals they climbed, there would be just enough time to make a mud pie. I then assumed that I had been making these pies for quite a long time, seeing there were at least thirty people already on their way to the top.

I made another pie. Another young woman came and took this from me. She then began to walk toward the pyramid and when she would reach it, would start to climb.

"Strange," I said.

I continued to make the mud pies thoughout the night and into the next day. I noticed that the people seemed to take the pies according to their age, beginning with the young, and slowly working their way to the old.

I thought about this for a second, having no conclusion to this thought, I simply stated, "strange".

At about noon there were only several people left. They were all very old.

Anxious to finish, I doubled my efforts.

Finally there was only one man left. He approached, and I decided that this would be my only chance to find out more about this pyramid, and the situation I had found myself in.

He stated quite frankly that he did not know.

His smile grew slightly larger, though I would have thought it impossible. His eyes quickly studied my apparel, and I am quite sure he noticed that I had none. I say this because he then proceeded in asking why I was naked.

I explained to him that answer eluded me.

"Strange," he said, took the pie and began to walk towards the pyramid.
