The Divine Crepe

by Milky

The newspapers had been rambling about nothing else for weeks now. The saviour was coming back, this time as a crepe. It would occur in a small crepe shop in the Hollanmall, in New Holland, Surinam. It had been predicted by every skilled astrologer, clergyman, psychic and even a few scientists.

New Holland had gone from being an obscure and poor village to a tourist haven. Millions of tourists, newspapermen, TV crews and religious fanatics from around the world had come to see the divine pastry appear. It was written in the stars that the crepe would be prepared on January 9th.

The owners of Der Crepondom were understandably nervous. They would preparing and baking the new messiah. If they failed, dropped it on the floor, overheated it... they would surely be assassinated. The government of Surinam had begun to pay for them to be chauffered to and from work each day, and arranged massive security. Der Crepondom no longer served the public. Jon VanHoff and his three assistants practised the creation of crepes 10 hours a day. No-one would interfere with the creation of the holy crepe.

On the day of January 9th, Jon VanHoff and his three assistants arrived at work early, at 8am. The entire Hollanmall was surrounded by various pro and anti groups. Jon gently prepared the dough, which had been donated by an American company which had paid four million dollars for the honour. Jon tugged and pulled and rolled and stirred. Gently, he spread on the blueberry jam, and folded the crepe. After a few moments alone in the oven, it was ready. The pastry representative of God.

Jon was forgotten, and the crepe was wheeled away by a security force and placed in a bulletproof glass container. It was then raised above the masses in the parking lot by a large crane. The masses went insane. They were witnessing divinity!

And yet some called fraud. The crepe hadn't worked any miracles worth mentioning, nor had it preached kindness, both of which were considered to be common indicators of messiahdom.

But one day, the crepe proved them wrong.
