Old Growth White Pine Tours!
Weve heard that it is going to be a hotter than usual summer
this year wouldnt you like to spend part of it swimming in clear, clean, cool
Kukagami Lake? We have spaces available late July through Labour Day. There are three new
excursions new this year.
Last winter Allan and I took a tape measure with us to explore a dozen or
so ancient white pines on the far shore. We found many with a circum-ference
of 9 to 10 feet! We will be guiding weekly tours to this area
for a 2-hour walk. Well travel by boat, canoes or kayaks to the site,
then walk around the forest to hug the big pines. Well also teach you about the
other trees in the forest, as well as the herbs and flowers of the season. There is no fee
for this tour this summer, as we all explore this beautiful area.
Last summer I spent three days on a solo canoe trip to the magical
north end of Kukagami Lake. I discovered quiet little bays and some pretty
fantastic ancient white pines. This summer, were offering a north end
boat tour to visit these areas. Well hike along some wilderness portage trails, walk
in the woods, hug trees, swim, and in season, pick blueberries to accompany our shore
lunch. We can even bring along a kayak or canoe if you would like to spend
the afternoon on your own paddling the 12 km back to the lodge. There will be a fee for
this tour.
Halfway up the eastern shore of Kukagami, a half kilometre through the
quiet forest, there is a long skinny lake. On this tour well paddle on
the little lake to visit a few huggable pines and cedars, swim in clear, cool water, and
listen to the gently falling water of a tiny stream. This is the most
physically demanding of the tours. You need to be proficient at getting into and out of a
canoe at several places along the shore. There will be a fee for this tour. |
